Please check this FAQ and the Technical Information page before contacting us. We are always happy to hear from you though!

Buying Fonts, licenses and refunds

Where are GT fonts sold?

Grilli Type fonts are sold exclusively through this website, and you are welcome to talk to us via email for more than single licenses or other requests.

Trial Versions

We offer trial versions of some typefaces. Those files have a basic character set and no kerning, but allow you to assess if the typeface is a good fit for your project.

Upgrade your license

You can always upgrade your license, either to include more computers or more weights of a specific typeface. Contact us for more information about that.

Large volume licenses

We offer substantial discounts for large volumes. Please talk to us about it.

EULA

Please carefully read our End User License Agreement before buying a license. We tried to make our EULA as user-friendly as possible, readable by a human, but it’s still needed to protect the customer, the designer and the foundry from possible legal risks.

Returns & refunds

Because of the nature of our product – essentially a software product – we are not able to offer refunds except for grave technical problems, that can not be solved even with our technical assistance. Please contact us if you have any problems!

The Fonts

Opentype Format

All our typefaces are sold as Postscript Opentype files. Opentype fonts are cross-platform compatible, support large character sets and easy access to advanced typographic features, such as stylistic alternates. They work on both Windows and Mac OS X. All our typefaces are tested on OS X 10.6 and Windows 7 for use in professional design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.

Editing

You are allowed to edit typefaces to add additional characters you may need, or otherwhise accomodate your organization’s needs. You are not allowed to resell or otherwhise distribute the resulting files to anybody outside of your organization. We’d love to see what you have added to our typefaces, so please show us your work!

Character set

The minimal standard glyphset includes uppercase, lowercase, figures, mathematical symbols, western and northern european accents and special characters, currency and other symbols. Our typefaces support most central and northern European latin languages, including for example French, Spanish, German, or even Icelandic. If you would like to buy a typeface from us but are missing a character of your language, please talk to us – we do custom font editing for clients. Depending on the scope of the project you may well have to pay for it though.

Other

Custom fonts

Many of our designers are available for custom font projects. You can contact them directly through their personal websites, or talk with us and we will forward your request to the designer most fitting to your project.

Submissions

If you are interested in releasing a type design you are working on through Grilli Type, the first step should be to compile a PDF of it and send it to us. We are interested in high-quality type design with an interesting character. Write a bit about the background of the typeface, and yourself, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Please allow for up to one to two weeks before reminding us of your submission.

Font Formats

All our fonts are delivered in PostScript Type1 Opentype format with the file-ending .otf. They are installable on all major operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux). GT Lena makes extensive use of opentype features. Not all design software supports opentype features at this point.

Download & Installation

After purchasing any digital product, you will instantly receive an email with a link to download the typefaces. It may take a few minutes, and in some instances the email may land in your spam folder. Please contact us if after thirty minutes you still have not received an email. Install the font files as you may install any typeface – by adding it to your system’s font tool, or by using a special font management tool.

Using Fonts & Technical Specs

The font-files are tested on Windows 7 and OS X in professional design sofware and ran through a series of tests before release. Our fonts are optimized for use in professional layout software like Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and similar. They should work in other software too, but they are not tested for it. Some functions (mainly opentype features) may not work as expected or not at all, depending on the software used. We are happy to help you work out any kinks you experience with our fonts though. Please talk to us if you experience any problems.

16 Styles Noël Leu

In its heart GT Walsheim is a geometric sans serif, but it has a certain roughness in its design. While the capitals on their own are great for titles, don’t understimate Walsheim in text size. With its eight weights from Ultra Light to Ultra Bold it looks great in every situation. Additionally, for each weight there’s an oblique style.

GT Walsheim Features

All GT Walsheim Styles

Baumberger was one of the great early Swiss poster designers. Baumberger stated that he never really had an education in typography. He invented his own typefaces as he needed them while designing his posters. At first the type used on the posters seem to be random experiments, but once you take a closer look, you realize that they share certain design aspects which occur throughout most of his work. Especially the peculiar uppercase G with its very unique design is interesting. Many posters by Otto Baumberger show type with the same G and very similar overall characteristics.

So when Noël Leu started designing the typeface, he took the Walsheim poster as his main inspiration – left the original, right his lithography print interpretation. Now in its final state the Walsheim family contains eight weights accompanyied by an Oblique style for every weight.

Trial

You can download the trial version of GT Walsheim to play around with it and find out if you and her are a good fit. You may not use this version in any final files for any project. The files are for testing purposes and only contain the basic character set. The trial version does not contain any kerning pairs.

Grilli Type End User License Agreement

Version 1.3 / September 2011

(1) This is an agreement between you, the purchaser, and Grilli (Unincorporated Association Grilli). In accept- ing the terms of this agreement, you acknowledge understanding and promise to comply with its terms. If you do not accept the terms, you can not complete the purchase transaction.

(2) What you are purchasing from Grilli is the license to use digital typeface software – hereafter “fonts” – on a certain number of computers within your organization and servers under your control; you are not purchasing the copyright to the design of the fonts, but the rights to use the fonts on your computers. This agreement is valid for an unlimited period of time unless either party terminates it as stipulated under (6).

(3) If you are purchasing 1 license, you may use the fonts on a maximum 5 computers within your organization. For each further purchased license you may use the fonts on a maximum of another 5 computers. Purchasing 5 licenses would allow you to use the fonts on a maximum of 25 computers. You can purchase additional licenses at any time, which grant you the rights to use the fonts on additional computers and servers, as noted above.

(4) You can make archival copies of the fonts for your own purposes. You will not distribute the fonts to people outside of your organization. A copy of the fonts may be sent as part of a file release to a prepress bu- reau, if absolutely necessary. The fonts can be embedded in other software files, such as Portable Document Format (PDF), Flash files, sIFR, and Cufon, but you will take all reasonable care to embed the fonts in such a way that they cannot be extracted from the files you create. Embedding the fonts on a website with @font-face is not allowed under this license.

(5) You may modify the fonts for your own purposes, but the copyright remains with Grilli, and the number of computers covered by the license remains the same. You may not commission a third party to modify the fonts without first gaining permission from Grilli. You may not distribute, sell or give away modified versions of the fonts.

(6) We have done everything we can to produce our fonts to the highest and most up-to-date technical standards, and we test the fonts in the latest versions of several technically-compliant applications. If you do experience any difficulties with our fonts, we will do everything that we can to work with you to resolve any issues. If, after we have worked with you to resolve any technical issues, you are still not satisfied with our product, we will be pleased to refund your money, which shall be the limit of our liability in this transaction. You may not use the fonts after this point. Only technical issues are reason for refund, and the customer has to show clearly that they do exist and can not be resolved by Grilli. This refund is only available in the first 15 days after the purchase.

(7) We grant the rights of use of our fonts to you in good faith, and request that you promise to adhere to the terms of this agreement to the best of your ability, and in good faith.

(8) The agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Swiss law. Place of performance is Bern, Switzerland. The courts of Bern, Switzerland shall have jurisdiction.

GT Haptik is a Grotesque typeface with a very special characteristic: Its uppercase letters and numbers are optimized to be read blindfolded and by touching them. Because of that its glyphs are monoline and geometrical. Optical criteria become secondary. This gives the typeface a weird but also very charmful touch that plays well not only in display sizes, but also for text use.

Lena is a sans-serif typeface featuring additional letterforms for some of the letters which allows you to play with the font in order to create striking titles. Mainly inspired by late 80’, early 90’ wild graphics, you’ll also find Art Deco flavours in the letter S and the power of supermodel Jean Shrimpton (Harper’s Bazaar, 1965) in the uppercases. GT Lena is a cover girl. She’s sexy, lunatic and elegant.
